Common Lock Problems

Are you having problems with your Ignition locking up? Is your key not working nice and smooth like it should? At Advanced Automotive Lock and Key, we have diagnosed and repaired hundreds of various types of automotive lock problems over the years. Most of the time, we can tell you exactly what the problem may be just by the make and model of your vehicle!

What causes these lock problems? Many factors can affect the way your locks work in your vehicle. Did you know a small amount of debris inside your ignition can lock it up completely? Whether it's dirt, debris, lint, metal shavings, etc. All can affect the way your locks function. A worn out key can also leave groove markings inside the lock causing metal shavings to spread throughout the lock housing which will eventually cause problems. If these issues are not addressed soon enough, your lock(s) WILL eventually lock up completely causing you more aggravation and costing you more money.

If you are experiencing any types of lock issues, give us a call or contact us to have all of your questions answered immediately by an experienced auto lock technician.

Lock Recoding

Replacement locks for most cars come either in pieces or they are pre-assembled with a separate key which will not match your existing key. Factory original locks for domestics purchased at the dealership typically come disassembled making it easier for a customer to have the lock rekeyed to match their existing key. Most aftermarket locks which can be purchased at auto parts stores such as Napa or Advance Auto Parts and factory original import locks will come pre-assembled with a key.

Any time you replace any lock in your vehicle, we highly recommend you have the lock recoded to match your existing key. This is very important, mainly because if your key ever becomes misplaced, it could be quite a hassle to have a replacement key made and could cost you lots of money in the long run. Please contact us or call us if you have any questions about lock recoding.
